Hello! My name is Jennifer and I am the owner of Woolstop! I graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in English language (and an obsession with sock knitting) in 2014, when the idea of running my own wool shop and being my own boss was something that might be possible if I won the lottery. Cue a lot of good luck, a huge amount of support from my amazing family, and a lot of work, and here we are!
At 25, I like to think that I’m the youngest wool shop owner in the country, and I am loving every minute of it. I still have to pinch myself sometimes, I cannot believe how lucky I am to have all my dreams come true at my age! I love being my own boss, and being able to squish lovely yarn all day and call it ‘work’! My three-year-old pet tortoise Dobby (whom I love making outfits for) even helps in the shop sometimes, so you might get more than you bargain for with a visit to Woolstop, and get to pet a tiny dinosaur!
Woolstop is set in the picturesque town of Thornbury, just outside of Bristol, where there is a real sense of community – I am constantly surprised by how lovely everyone (especially the knitters!) are, and how generous they are with their time and help.
None of this would have been possible without my amazing family, so I would like to thank them for all of their support and advice, especially my fellow sock knitting obsessed mum, my knitting novice dad, and computer-savvy brother, and of course my aunt who taught me to knit in the first place, and unleashed an obsession.
Here is a little shop tour!
You can find Woolstop at the bottom end of Thornbury High Street, opposite NatWest Bank and between Bonds of Thornbury and Romys Kitchen.
